Celebrating Tolworth Weekend!
During the first weekend of December, SHEDx will be hosting a series of events which seek to unite volunteers across Tolworth and celebrate the area in the build up to Christmas.
The weekend will kick off on Friday 30th November with an opening ceremony for a month-long celebratory event. Tolworth currently has minimal Christmas decorations and to change this, students from Kingston University have created a special digital advent calendar.
The calendar, which will be projected onto Tolworth Tower between 5:30pm and 6:30pm daily until Wednesday 26th December, appears as 27 turning pages which will hopefully bring a bit of joy to all.
There will be a launch on Friday 30th November by La Fratelli Restaurant on Tolworth Broadway at 5pm, before the main switch on 5:30pm. We look forward to welcoming all who would like to attend.
On Saturday 1st December the Celebrating Tolworth Weekend continues, with the first of several gardening events to plant some of the benches along Tolworth Broadway. Volunteers are encouraged to come down to Tolworth Community Library, between 10am and 1pm, to populate three of the planters with fragrant herbs and bee friendly species and plants to improve the air quality.
This will be the first opportunity to see our Green Sheds in action, as mobile planting units which encourage people to sow and grow. In the new year, we will be hosting a series of workshops to make wildflower 'seedbombs' which will be packed into the Green Sheds as a way to promote gorilla gardening in the area.
On Sunday 2nd of December we will round off the weekend by encouraging the community to visit one of Tolworth’s hidden gems, Corinthian Casuals Football Club, as part of London’s biggest ever tree planting event.
The London wide event has seen the Mayor of London, in association with The Conservation Volunteers, give away 25,000 trees to community groups, schools and other organisations.
50 saplings will be planted at the Corinthian Casual’s ground (King Georges Field, Queen Mary Close, Hook Rise South, Tolworth, Surrey, KT6 7NA) between 10am and 1pm, to celebrate the club’s importance as a hub of the local community and bolster biodiversity on site.

The SHEDx team look forward to welcoming everyone to the Celebrating Tolworth Weekend but if you cannot make it don't worry there will be plenty more events, workshops and discussions to get involved with in the new year!
