The Farm of Futures Update

It has been well over a year now since The Community Brain and 121 Collective started collaborating to set up a sustainable community hub in Tolworth called The Farm of Futures.

The farm seeks to support the growth of local ideas, as well as food, promotes cross generational skill sharing, educates on aquaponics and encourages the farming of waste for upcycled, community designed products. We want communities to feel proud of where they live and actively engage with it - to make dreams into realities.

Conversion of the abandoned Tolworth Main Allotments Society building began early in 2019 and since then we have installed a functioning workshop and studio space, are trialling aquaponics, have built raised beds, an apiary and a chicken coop.

With the communities support the farm also successfully received funding at the end of last year which will be used to install solar panels at some point in the near future.

Although Covid-19 has meant that public access and volunteering activities have temporarily had to be suspended, with the latest government advice we are looking at ways to gradually reopen safely.

We are more keen than ever to hear from people who have an idea for the farm, would like to get involved and will shortly be launching an online survey to hear which activities you would like to see in the future.

Until then the farm team would like to say a massive thank you for the support so far and we look forward to developing the farm into the future together.
