Discover the links between Tolworth - Malden Manor and Berrylands whilst walking alongside the Hogsmill river on this 3-mile walk. You can break off the walk halfway for a shorter version (2 miles) and once finished you can return to the start in a few minutes on the bus.
TOLWORTH ROUNDABOUT
Tolworth roundabout has become a destination
in itself. Thanks to The Community Brain’s project SHEDx,
and a wider wayfinding project, it is now home to two wildlife murals (painted by
local artist WeAreSkyHigh) and 29 enamelled steel birds (hand painted by Himali Patil). Both artworks showcase the native wildlife of Tolworth Court Farm Fields, Kingston’s largest Nature Reserve. Perhaps you will spot some on your walk today...

SUNRAY RECYCLE
Sunray Recycle’s aim is to reduce landfill and help create a cleaner environment & future for everyone. To do this, they collect plastics for Terracycle (earning pennies to support the community at the same time!) and help & encourage people to re-use / re-purpose as much as possible.
They collect crisp packets, bread bags, biscuit & cake wrappers, yoghurt & baby pouches, and lots more.

THE HOGSMILL NATURE TRAIL
The trail takes you to the banks of the Hogsmill river, a rare chalk stream. Here fish attract some spectacular birds, such as kingfishers and herons, and beautifully - coloured damselflies and dragonflies can be seen in the summer.
It passes through woodland with some magnificent trees, including ancient oaks that are home to bats and woodpeckers.
Much of the trail is flanked by hedgerows with large patches of brambles, blackthorn and hawthorn that are covered in blossom in the spring and brightly-coloured berries in the autumn.
HOW TO GET THERE
Train - Catch a train on the South Western railway between Vauxhall and Tolworth.
Bus - Between Kingston Town centre - Berrylands - Tolworth 406, 418, K2
Car - Parking is available at Tolworth railway station KT5 9NX. Please do not park in or near Tolworth Court Farm Fields entrance.

SIX ACRE MEADOW
Six Acre Meadow is one of the oldest meadows in the borough. On a warm summer's day, a range of butterflies including meadow browns and marbled whites can be seen fluttering amongst the long grass. Early in the morning roe deer can be spotted wandering through the meadow, leaving their recognisable tracks in the soft ground.
While walking through the meadow be sure to check out the newly installed boardwalk which leads into the woodland and past a wet meadow, the boardwalk is made from over 54,000 recycled plastic bottles!
OPHELIA
Sir John Everett Millais painted the background to Ophelia along this stretch of the Hogsmill river in 1851. Ophelia was added afterwards in 1852, modelled by 19 year old Elizabeth Siddal lying fully clothed in a full bathtub. The stream is the Hogsmill river which rises at Ewell and flows northwards to join the Thames at Kingston.
SAVE THE WORLD CLUB
This is a warehouse in Berrylands, run by a charity called ‘Save the World Club’.
They rescue useful waste, reusing it in environmental projects. Second hand goods are collected, restored and redistributed to the community (upcycling). They also gather all kinds of food and goods to feed and clothe the vulnerable.

SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
Whilst using this walking guide, you will pass three stations on the South Western Railway line; Tolworth and Malden Manor station are on the same line whereas Berrylands station is connected to the Surbiton line.
