About the event
Join us for a procession as we shine a light on Kingston Upon Thames’ forgotten candle-making heritage and remember the borough's lamplighters. This event celebrates Kingston’s forgotten candle making industry - there once was a candle making factory on Villier’s Road and a candle shop on the Market Place.
We will embrace our town’s history by remembering its heritage through a walk where we will hold lanterns made by local children and walk them to library and museum’s green. At Kingston Museum green we will gather and hang the lanterns on a large lantern structure built there. This structure will glow and remind us to remember our history and celebrate our town.
Meet at Kingston's Market Place at 5:15pm to listen to the story of the Lamplighter, and then make your own lantern.
This is an outside event, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
