About the event

Join us for a procession as we shine a light on Kingston Upon Thames’ forgotten candle-making heritage and remember the borough's lamplighters.

Kingston’s Light Procession will be a walk from the market square (the location of the old candle shop) to the green next to Kingston’s Museum and Library.

This event celebrates Kingston’s forgotten candle making industry - there once was a candle making factory on Villier’s Road and a candle shop on the Market Place. We will embrace our town’s history by remembering its heritage through a walk where we will hold lanterns made by local children and walk them to library and museum’s green.

Here, we will erect a lantern structure on which we can hang the smaller lanterns. This structure will glow and remind us to remember our history and celebrate our town.

Meet at Kingston's Market Place at 5:30pm to listen to the story of the Lamplighter.

This is an outside event, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
