Come and join us as we give the wildlife and plants in The Tolworth Court Farm Nature Reserve a helping hand this winter by removing litter from the sensitive green site and check on the health of the rare Brown Hairstreak Butterfly population.
Time & Location
15 Dec 2022, 10:00 – 16 Dec 2022, 14:00
Surbiton, Surbiton KT5 9NX, UK
About the event
As part of our Wild Tolworth project, in collaboration with Kingston Council and The Community Brain, and with support from the Greater London Authority, we are running a festive litter pick at Tolworth Court Farm Fields.
On the day, there will also be volunteers from Butterfly Conservation running a Brown Hairstreak Butterfly egg count.
After years of surveys, thanks to local volunteers, we know the site has an excellent population of the species and this egg count will help build this data further.
Full details will be sent out prior to the session, once you sign up.
Project Information
At almost 50ha, its size & location along the Hogsmill River mean it is an important place for nature. Despite being a haven for brown hairstreak butterflies, due to years of neglect & minimal use by locals, the site is far from reaching its ecological & social potential.
Adopting techniques used in rural projects, we will develop a pioneering rewilding vision for the site that stands to be the first of its kind in an urban environment.
This will create an ecologically complex landscape, generating a wealth of biodiversity to be enjoyed by locals & Londoners alike. Working with & for the community, we will raise the profile of the site in an engaging & inspirational way.
Please dress appropriately for the weather.
We have some protective / gardening gloves that you are welcome to borrow, however, you may prefer to bring your own.
